The reason is simple: the honest answer is “it depends”, and that sounds like evasion. So let's explain what ce it depends on and what ranges are realistic.

What drives the price, in order of importance

1. The number of products and how complex they are. A store with 50 simple products is a different thing from one with 2,000 products with variants, stock by size and tiered pricing. What matters isn't just how many there are, but how complicated each one is.

2. The integrations. This is where most underestimated budget goes. Automatic invoicing, stock sync with an ERP, generating shipping labels with the courier, a feed to Google Shopping — each is a separate piece of work, not a checkbox.

3. The design. A configured theme costs little. A custom design, built around your product, costs significantly more and, if you sell in a competitive niche, makes the difference between “just another store” and a brand.

4. The migration. If you already have a store, moving the products, customers, orders and above all the Google rankings is a project in itself.

Realistic ranges in Romania

The figures below are indicative, based on what we see in the market at the time of writing. Don't take them as a quote — take them as a map.

Project type

Indicative range

Timeline

Simple store on a configured theme, up to ~100 products, no complex integrations

4,000 – 10,000 RON

3–5 weeks

Store with custom design, invoicing and courier integrations

10,000 – 30,000 RON

6–10 weeks

Store with a large catalogue, ERP, pricing logic, multilingual

30,000 RON and up

10+ weeks

Warning sign: if someone gives you a firm price before asking how many products you have, what you invoice with and how you ship, that price can't be real. Either it will swell along the way, or you'll get a template.

The costs nobody puts in the quote

The build price is only the beginning. The real annual budget includes:

Hosting. A store can't sit on 100 RON a year of hosting. Realistically, between 600 and 3,000 RON annually, depending on traffic. If you go with Shopify, the monthly subscription replaces this line, but adds a transaction fee.

Maintenance. Updates, backups, monitoring, security. An unmaintained store doesn't “stand still” — it degrades and, sooner or later, fails right in the middle of a campaign.

Payment fees. The processor takes between 1% and 3% of every transaction. It seems small until you work it out across annual volume.

Content. Product photography, descriptions written by a human. It's the most commonly ignored cost and the one that most directly affects conversion.

Where it's worth saving and where it isn't

You can save on design in the first phase (start with something clean and invest once you've validated demand), on the number of features at launch, and on content if you can write the descriptions yourself.

Don't save on speed, on the checkout flow, or on the invoicing integration. The first two cut straight into your sales; the third eats hours of manual work every day, forever.

How to ask for a quote you can rely on

Prepare before the first conversation: how many products you have and whether they have variants, what you issue invoices with, which courier you work with, whether you already have a store that needs migrating, and what budget you have in mind. With those five, any serious agency can give you a fixed, itemized quote.

If you want to see what the build actually includes, we've laid it all out on the online store developmentpage.
